Duke Dermatology Clinic - Clinic 3K
As a medical and surgical dermatologist, I have over 45 years of experience in helping patients maintain healthy skin. I have special expertise in managing patients with many moles and in the early detection and treatment of skin cancers, such as basal and squamous cell cancers as well as melanoma. To this end, I use a technique called dermoscopy in which a hand-held, illuminated magnifier is used to analyze moles and other skin lesions to help make a diagnosis and to decide if a biopsy might be needed or not. Prior to moving to North Carolina in 2016 to be closer to family, I ran a private dermatology practice in Boca Raton, Florida, which I started in 1979. I was also an affiliate professor in the dermatology department at the University of Miami, where I practiced pediatric dermatology and also ran the pigmented lesion clinic for many years. With every patient visit, my main goal is to help my patients in the safest, least invasive and most straightforward fashion possible. I enjoy talking with my patients and getting to know them. After all, as a patient myself, I value a skilled clinician that is also kind and compassionate. Dr. Johr is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Familial Atypical Multiple Mole Melanoma Syndrome. Duke University Hospital
My focus is on medical dermatology, particularly patients who are immunocompromised. My clinical career in Dermatology has focused on dermatologic problems in HIV+ patients and solid organ transplant recipients, as well as patients who are immunocompromised for other medical conditions. I established the Duke Dermatology Transplant Clinic with the goal to provide early identification and prompt treatment of skin cancers in SOTRs by providing easy access, assessment of risk, patient education, early biopsy, field therapy for pre-cancers, medical therapeutic modification of risks if possible, and coordinated care with surgery, oncology or radiation therapy when indicated. In September 2022, I retired from the Duke Outpatient clinical service and now serve as an attending physician at the Durham VA Health System. I continue to provide Inpatient Dermatology for the Duke Health system as member of the consult team addressing the specialized multidisciplinary care of hospitalized patients with skin disease. I am blessed and privileged to be able to come to work each day at Duke. I enjoy working in dermatology, as I can see folks of all ages with all sorts of skin conditions. It requires a lot of listening, looking, and often times a procedure to biopsy a place of concern. I like to educate patients on their skin condition, on the importance of good skin care, and on sun protection. Duke Dermatology has an amazing team of people to work with, everyone enjoys their job and excels at it. I enjoy getting to know my patients and their families and hope to make their Duke experience a really great one. I consider myself an optimistic, realistic, open, energetic person, eager to learn and help patients as efficiently as possible in a fun way. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and young children, working outdoors, or swimming at the lake.
